Flying W Ranch

For a few years I'd been hearing about the Bar J Wranglers up at Jackson Hole. Then when we moved here I saw something similar, called the Flying W Ranch.
Last weekend we all went to check it out. Located just north of Garden of the God's, the red rocks frame this picturesque setting. My boys of course had to climb to the top when they saw others doing the same thing.
It was a little slice of the old West. From Indian dances,
to cabins. This one was filled with cookbooks dating bake a hundred years.
If I'd had littler children, they would have loved to go inside the tepee.
There were stores to walk through, but the main feature is the chuckwagon supper and cowboy show.
There are two large seating areas, one inside and one outside. Because there had been rain earlier they had us sit indoors. We were in the back, but could feel the breezes easier, so we didn't mind.
There were a lot of people here, but they fed us steak or BBQ beef, ranch beans, chunky applesauce, biscuits, a baked potato, spice cake, and lemonade. There was even enough for some people to have seconds, and the line moved quickly. The show was more of a musical concert, though there was some comedy thrown in too. This fiddler on the right and one of the guitarists were national champions in their field. They were fabulous. The one behind the post used to play backup for Kenny Chesney. The singer on the left was new, young, and the butt of most of the jokes. The purple cowboy seemed the most authentic. He was from Montana, wrote cowboy songs, and had a great voice. It was fun to experience this and I realized, when I saw a sign, that the Bar J and the Flying W are two of six cowboy dinner shows throughout the West. Now I don't feel like I've missed out, though the Bar J is supposedly more funny.
